Swinson: Local sewing shop part of the fabric of the community

On a recent visit to I Sew 2 in Kirkintilloch, MP Jo Swinson saw first-hand the positive impact this sewing boutique is having on the high street and the local community.

I Sew 2 sells fabrics, ribbons, trims and other crafts, and offers a range of different workshops such as knitting and crocheting. To add to its long list of accomplishments, it also won the 2019 East Dunbartonshire Business Awards for best Independent Retail Business.

Commenting afterwards, Jo said:

“I Sew 2 is a perfect example of turning a lifelong passion into a fun and creative craft, and it has become an important part of the fabric of our local community. The different workshops it offers are a fantastic way to bring people together and pick up a new skill. It’s especially encouraging that young people are taking an interest

"It’s great to see I Sew 2 recognised for best Independent Retail Business at this year’s Business Awards. People clearly value what I Sew 2 brings to our community, and it’s incredibly important that we continue to support thriving small businesses like this on our high streets.

Lianne, Owner of I Sew 2, said:

“Even though she was in the middle of a leadership campaign, Jo took time out of her busy schedule to visit I Sew 2. It was encouraging to discuss some small business challenges and she fully engaged with the customers in store at the time. Hopefully she'll be inspired to dig out her pins and explore the benefits of knitting”
