Local MP Jo Swinson visited Westerton Primary School in Bearsden recently to meet staff and chat to P7 pupils. Jo’s visit prompted a creative writing lesson for the year group, who will be writing to Jo about a matter ‘they care about’.
Commenting, Jo said:
“I had a fantastic time at Westerton Primary meeting teachers and chatting to the children.
“There were some wide-ranging questions from pupils, on everything from Brexit and Theresa May’s strategy, to space exploration, racism and sexism in society.
“It was great to see one or two budding politicians in the class and I hope that they will be motivated to pursue their interest in politics further.”
Depute Headteacher Deborah Hart said:
“Westerton Primary were delighted to receive a visit from our local MP Jo Swinson. She spent an hour in class talking with our P7 pupils. She gave a very interesting account of her job profile and her reasons for going into politics. She answered many questions about a number of topics from local matters to questions on space travel!
“The pupils were inspired by her visit and it has prompted a writing lesson. All P7 pupils are going to write to Jo about a matter 'they care about'. They are looking forward to their replies and are motivated and feel that their opinions will be listened to.
“This was a thoroughly enjoyable visit for both staff and pupils.”
