Jo Swinson MP for East Dunbartonshire met with Gloria Coates from Tesco Corporate Affairs on Friday to discuss the current state of plans for the existing store in Milngavie.
Jo pressed Tesco on a number of issues including what an expanded store would sell, the height of the building, the continuing lack of a Community Champion and plans for an exhibition and public meeting this summer.
Commenting Jo said:
“Given how wrong Tesco got it last time local people do not want Tesco to rush through a barely amended plan for a monster store. At least Tesco seem to be engaging with a range of local groups and taking their time.”
“However we still don’t have a store community champion, and I have asked Tesco to come back to me with specific figures on the scale and footprint of the proposed new building, which remains a key concern.Tesco have not budged on store capacity, the potential impact of a 50/50 split of food and non-food items on businesses in the town centre and still refuses to provide a scale model to help people visualise the plan.”
“All of the unanswered questions must be addressed.”
