Local MP Jo Swinson is welcoming the study launched by Liberal Democrat Transport Minister Baroness Kramer into increasing the benefits that Scotland gains from HS2.
The Coalition Government has asked HS2 Ltd to find ways to make further capacity and journey time improvements between northern England and Scotland including looking into cutting journeys from Glasgow and Edinburgh to London to 3 hours or less.
A final report will be submitted to the Department for Transport next year for ministers to consider.
Commenting, Jo said:
“This is further great news for Scotland and the local area.
“Already the HS2 Y-network will help boost the Scottish economy by an estimated £3 billion and could bring countless job opportunities in construction and engineering.
“With this announcement it looks likes Scotland could benefit further still.”
