Commenting on the decision of Charles Kennedy to stand down as Liberal Democrat party leader, Jo said:
“Charles Kennedy has showed great courage and dignity over the past few days, in what has been an upsetting time for everyone involved. I respect Charles for his bravery and the difficult decision he has made to step down as leader, and I pay tribute to his achievements. He led the Liberal Democrats to our best general election result for over 80 years, with 1 million more votes and 62 MPs.
This puts us in a strong position to draw from the talent that exists within the party and choose a leader who can further cement the Liberal Democrats as the most progressive force in UK politics. I hope that Charles Kennedy can now have time and privacy to focus on his health, and that he will in future return to front line politics – with his talent and experience he still has much to contribute.”
