Elspeth Attwooll MEP visits threatened Westerton Post Office5.21.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 21st May 2004
Jo Swinson welcomed Elspeth Attwooll MEP to East Dunbartonshire this week, and Elspeth was keen to visit the Post Offices threatened with closure to hear from local people how these closures would affect them. Jo and Elspeth are pictured discussing the proposed closure of Westerton Post Office with Mr Ansari who runs the shop next door, and is concerned for the viability of the retails outlets nearby should Westerton Post Office close. Jo said, "Post Offices often act as a hub for the community, and so their closure can have a devastating effect. The Government must recognise and act to support local Post Offices, instead of undermining them with its schemes to scrap the pension book."
