Tesco has lodged an appeal against East Dunbartonshire Council's refusal of its application to expand its Milngavie store.

Jo had repeatedly urged Tesco not to appeal, saying that if they still wish to expand the store, they should consult with local people, revise their plans and submit a new application.

Commenting, Jo said:

"I am very disappointed that Tesco have decided to appeal the decision rather than engaging with local people and submitting a revised application which reflects what the people of Milngavie really want. The Council's planning board gave a full explanation of their very good reasons for rejecting the application, in which they clearly demonstrated that Tesco's proposals are not in keeping with the Local Plan.

"Local people have already been bitterly disappointed once recently, when the Government Reporter decide to approve the developers' appeal over the Kilmardinny development, and this cannot be allowed to happen again. It is just as well the people of Milngavie are ready to campaign against this appeal, and I will be right behind them."
