Lib Dems welcome regeneration cash

12.31.00pm GMT Mon 16th Nov 2009

Jo and Ross Finnie MSP have welcomed the announcement that Kirkintilloch will benefit from a share of Government cash to help revitalise town centres and sustain jobs.

Kirkintilloch Town Centre is set to receive £361,000 from the Town Centre Regeneration fund.

Commenting, Jo said:

"This is brilliant news for Kirkintilloch and I hope it will bring new employment opportunities as well as giving the town centre a new lease of life. I look forward to seeing how the money will be spent.

"I hope there will be full consultation with local traders associations, the Chamber of Commerce and of course Kirkintilloch Community Council on how the money is spent."

Commenting, Ross Finnie said:

"I am delighted that Kirkintilloch has been allocated some much needed funding to revitalise its town centre.

"More and more town centres across the West of Scotland have been in decline due to the stiff competition on offer from the several out of town shopping centres. I hope this cash injection will go some way to revitalise the struggling town centres into the vibrant, busy town centres they once were.

"My only concern about this investment is that when the Scottish Government first announced the funding for the Town Centre Initiative was said to be coming from accelerated capital spending as part of the economic recovery plan. I only hope that to pay for these investments the Council will not face funding cuts."
