Bishopbriggs residents hope to run sports hall6.18.52pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 3rd Apr 2009 Community group co-ordinator Ruth Box met with Jo Swinson today to set out plans for keeping the sports hall running. Despite an announcement by Muse Developments that they intend to demolish the sports hall as part of the development of Bishopbriggs town centre, volunteers from the local community have offered to run the hall themselves in a bid to keep the well-used facility in community use. Muse have asked the group to put forward a business plan for the venture. Many local community groups have already expressed an interest in hiring the hall should it be kept running. Anyone interested in helping the volunteers to make the hall a co-operative community venture is encouraged to get in touch, by calling Ruth on 0141 772 4283 or emailing admin@woodhillevangelical.org.uk. Commenting, Jo said: "This proposition goes to show that Muse Developments are wrong to say that there is no viable use for the sports hall. I have offered my assistance in putting together a business plan and I hope that Muse will give it the serious consideration it deserves. I am certain that the residents of Bishopbriggs would do a fantastic job of making the sports hall a real asset to the community, and already there are signs that it would get plenty of use."
