Jo carried out a survey of local shops and supermarkets during Scottish Food Fortnight

Jo Swinson has congratulated Milngavie butcher JM Lewis for coming top in a survey of local shops stocking Scottish produce carried out to mark Scottish Food Fortnight (6th-21st September).

The East Dunbartonshire-wide survey carried out by Jo looked at the efforts made to support local suppliers, the quantity of Scottish products available and steps taken to promote these products. JM Lewis came top in the survey of local stores, while ASDA's Bearsden and Bishopbriggs branches were judged best in the supermarkets category.

Commenting on the survey results, Jo said:

"Many congratulations to JM Lewis for supporting Scottish Food Fortnight. Stocking 40 different Scottish food products, JM Lewis is clearly a strong backer of fresh, good quality local produce.

"In carrying out this survey, I was delighted to discover just what a wide variety of Scottish foods are available in East Dunbartonshire. This doesn't just go for small businesses either - supermarkets should also be given credit for their efforts in promoting Scottish Food Fortnight and stocking Scottish produce. Congratulations to ASDA, which came out on top my survey of supermarkets promoting Scottish food.

"Scotland's native produce is some of the world's very best. It deserves to be strongly promoted, which is why Scottish Food Fortnight is such an important event in the calendar of Scottish food producers. I am very pleased to see businesses large and small in East Dunbartonshire getting right behind Scottish produce."
