The paramedics were involved in a midwinter rescue in the Campsie hills

The bravery of two local paramedics was recognised by Jo Swinson today, as she presented them with Royal Humane Society awards at a ceremony in Kirkintilloch.

Paramedics Keith Murrie and Frank Cairney were involved in a life-saving rescue in the Campsie hills on New Year's Day 2008. The patient rescued by the pair went on to nominate the pair for the award in recognition of their efforts.

After presenting the awards, Jo said:

"The Royal Humane Society awards recognise bravery above and beyond the call of duty. I'm sure they would say it was 'all in a day's work', but the rescue carried out by paramedics Murrie and Cairney in the Campsies earlier this year made them deserving recipients of these awards. I was delighted to be able to give due recognition to their bravery at today's ceremony."
