Jo welcomes Queen to Katrine Water Project opening4.35.00pm GMT Thu 3rd Jul 2008 Jo Swinson has welcomed today's opening of the Katrine Water Project by HM Queen Elizabeth. Scottish Water's £120 million flagship project at Milngavie reservoirs has been under construction since 2004. The completed project will supply drinking water to 700,000 people in and around Glasgow. Jo said: "The opening of the Katrine Water Project is a great occasion for water-based engineering, as well as a wonderful opportunity to welcome Her Majesty the Queen to Milngavie. "I am pleased to see that finished project has a relatively minor impact on the landscape. Like many people in Bearsden and Milngavie, I use the reservoirs regularly for recreation and value the pleasant scenery that they offer. "Loch Katrine has been supplying piped drinking water to Glasgow and elsewhere since the mid-19th century. The completion of this project represents the continuing legacy of pioneering engineering work in this area." The original Loch Katrine Water Supply Scheme was opened in 1859 by Queen Elizabeth II's great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria. Related Link:
