The new Marina is set to open in 4-6 weeks

Jo Swinson believes Kirkintilloch is set to be revitalised by the upcoming opening of the new Southbank Marina.

Jo took in the latest developments on the project during a site visit today with operations director Andrew Thomson and representatives from developers Balfour Beatty.

Commenting after the visit, she said:

"The opening of the new marina is just a few weeks away now. This is a very exciting development that promises to breathe new life into the canalside area of Kirkintilloch.

"The development includes a considerable amount of new office space, which will boost business and employment in the area, while the new 46-berth marina will cement Kirkintilloch's reputation as the canal capital of Scotland. This will be joined by shops and a new restaurant in due course, with the planned arts and culture centre forming the final part of the ambitious redevelopment project.

"This year's Kirkintilloch Canal Festival promises to be a memorable occasion, with events taking place around the new marina adding to those on Cowgate, in Peel Park and elsewhere. I look forward to the event building in popularity in years to come."
