Jo and Bearsden & Milngavie Lib Dem Councillors are campaigning to keep Bearsen's name in the area's Scottish Parliament contituency title

Jo Swinson is urging Bearsden residents to back her campaign to keep Bearsden's name in the title of the area's Scottish Parliament constituency.

The Boundary Commission for Scotland announced proposals for redrawn Scottish Parliament constituencies on 14th February. Under the plans, a new constituency will be created, named "Milngavie and Bishopbriggs".

Bearsden also falls within the new constituency, and Jo is campaigning to get the name changed to "Milngavie, Bearsden and Bishopbriggs" to reflect this.

Commenting, Jo said:

"I was surprised to say the least when I saw the name of the new constituency proposed by the Boundary Commission. When Milngavie, Bishopbriggs and Bearsden will be the three major towns in the constituency, why name it after only two of them?

"The Boundary Commission for Scotland is running a consultation on the proposals. I will be submitting a bid urging the Boundary Commission to include Bearsden in the name of the new constituency.

"I will add the names of all local residents who contact me to support the campaign when I make my submission, ahead of the closing date of 14th March. People can add their support to the campaign at campaigns.libdems.org.uk/savebearsdenname or by telephoning my office on 0141 762 2209.

"With 28,000 residents, Bearsden will be the largest town in the new constituency. It is a mystery to me why the name of the new constituency does not reflect this, but I'm sure the Boundary Commission can be persuaded by the voices Bearsden residents to correct this omission."
