Jo Swinson appointed Shadow Foreign Affairs Minister

Jo Swinson has been appointed Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs by Nick Clegg, in the final round of frontbench appointments made by the new Liberal Democrat leader.

Commenting on the new position, Jo said:

"I am delighted to take up this exciting and challenging foreign affairs role. I look forward to speaking on behalf of Liberal Democrats on Iraq and Afghanistan, European issues and more.

"Nick Clegg has put together a hugely dynamic and capable frontbench team, which I am thrilled to be a part of."

Nick Clegg said:

"I am determined to make the most of talented individuals like Jo Swinson, who is typical of the bright young generation of MPs we have within the Liberal Democrats."

Since being elected in 2005, Jo Swinson has previously held Shadow Ministerial positions on Culture, Media and Sport, Scotland and Women and Equality.
