The pupils received free maps through Ordnance Survey's nationwide scheme

Jo Swinson visited Primary 7 pupils at Bearsden Primary today, as the class enjoyed the use of free Ordnance Survey maps.

The maps were donated as part of Ordnance Survey's 'Free maps for 11-year olds' programme. Each pupil was given a 1:25,000 scale Explorer map, as well as a mapping guide and stickers to personalise the maps.

Jo said:

"The pupils at Bearsden Primary were clearly very pleased with their free maps. This worthwhile scheme from Ordnance Survey gives the pupils a chance to learn the basics of map-reading.

"It can also spark an interest in healthy outdoor activities like orienteering, which is a good way to get children active and enjoying the countryside around Bearsden.

While at the school, Jo answered questions from the pupils on a range of topics including local sports facilities and the Commonwealth Games. She said:

"The pupils had plenty of questions, particularly in relation to local sports facilities. It is clear that their imagination has already been sparked by Glasgow's successful Commonwealth Games bid.

"We need to ensure that first-class sports facilities are available to these pupils, so that any potential future athletes can be given the best chance to develop their talents."
