Jo Swinson is urging East Dunbartonshire residents to dress up for 'wear it pink' day on Friday 26 October 2007, in support of breast cancer research.

Jo is joining forces with the Breast Cancer Campaign, which has organised 'wear it pink' day as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The campaign calls on supporters to donate £2 to Breast Cancer Campaign and wear an item of pink on 26 October - anything from a subtle dash to head-to-toe pink.

Jo said:

"Every year, breast cancer will take the lives of over 13,000 people in the UK, around 14 of who will be from East Dunbartonshire. Like many others, I know people who have lost friends and family members to breast cancer.

"Today, we know more than ever about how to beat breast cancer, thanks to the valuable work of Breast Cancer Campaign and others. By supporting 'wear it pink' day on 26th October, we can make sure this work continues, and help more women affected by breast cancer."

Donations will allow the Breast Cancer Campaign to continue researching the cure and help the one woman in nine in the UK that will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Last year's wear it pink day raised a whopping £3 million for breast cancer research and helped to fund over forty new research projects in the United Kingdom.

Help Breast Cancer Campaign reach its target of £3.5 million and take part in the UK's original and best pink day. To register and to receive your free fundraising pack either call freephone 0800 107 3104; or visit www.wearitpink.co.uk.
