Jo pays tribute to 'pioneer' Anita Roddick

4.06.35pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 11th Sep 2007

Jo Swinson has paid tribute to the huge influence of Body Shop founder Anita Roddick, who has died aged 64.

Jo said:

"As a pioneer of ethical business and a green campaigner, Anita Roddick had a huge influence on me growing up. The body shop will always be thought of as the first business to bring cruelty-free, environmentally friendly products to the high street.

"Even as I now campaign against excess packaging, I am following in the footsteps of Anita Roddick, who was one of the first people to bring such issues into the public consciousness."
