Jo met with residents to listen to the problems they are having with anti-social behaviour

A renewed approach is urgently needed to tackle anti-social behaviour in Milngavie, Jo Swinson has said.

Jo visited local trouble spots with Carbeth Road residents today, to get a first-hand look at the graffiti, vandalism and littering that is concerning local residents. The East Dunbartonshire MP is taking up the matter with local shopkeepers, residents, the Police, East Dunbartonshire Council and others.

Jo said:

"The situation regarding anti-social behaviour around the Carbeth Road area has reached severe levels.

"Residents are sick of being intimidated by the vandalism, verbal abuse, property damage, littering and graffiti that is taking place. Furthermore, they feel that for whatever reason, the Police's current approach to tackling the situation is not working effectively.

"Fresh thinking is needed on targeting anti-social behaviour trouble spots. We need to ask what more can be done. Would police be better on bikes than in cars? Is CCTV an option? How can groups like Milngavie Youth Café play a stronger role?

"I will be raising this matter with a range of stakeholders including the Police, East Dunbartonshire Council, local licensed shopkeepers, youth groups and residents. We need to work together in order to tackle this problem, improve the local environment and give peace of mind to residents."
