Jo impressed by Cleddens Childcare Centre

12.11.00pm GMT Wed 22nd Aug 2007

Jo Swinson discussed the challenges of nursery education provision with Head of Centre Mary Lundie, when she visited Cleddens Learning & Childcare Centre in Bishopbriggs today.

Cleddens Learning & Childcare Centre, which provides places for up to 200 children, opened in June 2004 as the first Council-run nursery in East Dunbartonshire to provide extended care services for children.

Commenting on the visit, Jo said:

"The staff at Cleddens Childcare Centre do a great job in making the centre a safe, pleasant and stimulating environment for the children. Clearly, having a full-time nursery teacher coordinating active learning helps the children get the most out of their time at the centre.

"High quality nursery care is becoming more and more important for families as both parents increasingly choose to pursue careers. Cleddens Learning and Childcare Centre and facilities like it will no doubt continue to be extremely valuable in the community."
