Elderly residents in Milngavie stressed their concerns over anti-social behaviour to Jo Swinson today, as the East Dunbartonshire MP attended one of the regular coffee mornings held at the Fraser Centre in Milngavie.

Jo spoke informally with local residents meeting in the Fraser Centre and revealed later that of the matters raised with her, anti-social behaviour was the issue causing most concern.

Commenting after the visit, Jo said:

"Clearly, one of the issues uppermost in the minds of elderly residents is anti-social behaviour in the local community. Local people I spoke to today commented that on their Sunday morning walk to church they often see evidence of vandalism from the previous night.

"Vandalism and damage to property is a serious problem in itself, but when local people are fearful of leaving their homes at night, urgent steps have to be taken.

Residents had a chance to put their views across to Jo Swinson

"I am in contact with residents and the police about anti-social behaviour on an ongoing basis. Effective policing is an essential part of the approach needed to tackle anti-social behaviour, along with vigilance from local residents."

On a separate subject, Jo was delighted to meet some of those local people who have claimed their Veterans badges for service in HM Armed Forces. She said:

"There are still many Veterans badges waiting to be claimed by ex-servicemen and women in East Dunbartonshire. Anyone who thinks they may be eligible for a badge should contact my office on 0141 762 2209."
