Post Office ignoring local concerns over Kirkintilloch move2.09.13pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 26th Jul 2007
Jo Swinson has criticised the Post Office for ignoring the views of local residents, after it was confirmed that the relocation of Kirkintilloch Post Office to WH Smith will go ahead. A letter received by Jo from Post Office Ltd confirms that the Post Office will move to WH Smith on Cowgate from November this year. Jo said: "This news comes as a blow to the huge numbers of Kirkintilloch residents and Post Office customers opposed to this move. "I am astonished that the letter I received from Post Office Ltd refers to 'a very small number of representations' having been received. I have collected nearly 1000 petition signatures so far from local people against the move. "The consultation was poorly promoted, with very few local people I spoke to even aware it was taking place. When I encouraged people to give their views, they were overwhelmingly against the planned changes. "I will continue to pass on any comments I receive to the Post Office, as it is vital that they are kept aware of the strength of local feeling on this issue."
