It is feared that investment in new nuclear power will divert money away from the fledgling renewables industry

Responding to the publication of the Government's Energy White Paper, Jo Swinson has criticised the proposals to invest in new nuclear power stations.

Commenting on the White Paper, Jo said:

"The opposition of a majority of Scots, the billions of pounds squandered, the legacy of toxic waste left for future generations; nuclear power is simply the wrong choice for Scotland.

"It is essential that the potential of Scotland's renewables industry is realised, but the Government is sending a damaging message as it deserts this sustainable choice for more nuclear power stations.

"The choice facing us is between investment in clean, efficient energy and tried, tested and failed nuclear technology."
