Jo is seeking clarity on the details of the new Post Office proposals

Following the announcement that the Post Office on Kerr St, Kirkintilloch is to be transferred to WH Smith, Jo Swinson is seeking an early meeting with Post Office Managing Director Alan Cook.

Across the UK, the Post Office is transferring 70 Post Office branches to WH Smith stores, following a pilot programme of 6 branches last year.

Commenting on the announcement, Jo said:

"Customers and employees of the Post Office will have many questions that need to be answered following this announcement.

"I intend to have an early meeting with Mr Cook to raise questions over what the changes will mean for customers and how Post Office staff will be affected.

"I am reassured to see that a public consultation will take place in the summer, but much about this proposal will need to be clarified between now and then."

A letter from Mr Cook reveals that a public consultation is due to begin before the end of July and the transfer of all the affected branches will be completed by July 2008.
