Jo Swinson MP witnessed the skilled work being carried out by the East Dunbartonshire-based employees of Thales Optronics, during a visit to the company's Glasgow plant yesterday.
57 people from Thales' 460-strong workforce are from East Dunbartonshire. Most are involved in the highly-skilled manufacture of electro-optical systems and equipment.
Ms Swinson said:
"Seeing behind the scenes on this visit, I witnessed the level of sophistication that goes into the manufacturing at Thales, thanks to the experience and expertise of on-site staff.
"The plant has many long-serving employees, clearly a result of the company understanding the importance of holding on to skilled, knowledgeable and highly-trained staff.
"Thales is a showcase for the skills of East Dunbartonshire's and Glasgow's scientists and engineers. These qualities are the key to giving industries like Thales incentives to locate in the Glasgow area, holding off competition from cheaper labour markets."
