Jo has drawn attention to the need for Christmas Card recycling

Jo Swinson MP is encouraging her constituents to recycle their Christmas cards, and has highlighted the variety of ways they can do so.

Kerbside recycling, provided by East Dunbartonshire Council, is one way of ensuring cards are recycled. Residents should leave the cards out for collection along with their normal waste paper.

People keen to support Scottish woodland can help by recycling at Tesco and WH Smith, thanks to a campaign being run by the Woodland Trust Scotland. The charity aims to recycle six million Christmas cards this year, with recycling facilities being provided at Tesco and WH Smith stores around the UK.

Jo will make her constituency office available throughout January as a drop-off point for Christmas cards.

Jo commented:

"Christmas cards are as much a part of the winter festivities as carols and mince pies. However with 100 million cards sent every year by Scots alone, it is important that we try our best to recycle as many of these as possible.

"We are fortunate in East Dunbartonshire to have the means to recycle literally on our doorsteps. Kerbside collections offer a convenient way to ensure that old cards do not add to demands on landfill.

"I am also delighted support the Woodland Trust recycling scheme and am pleased to offer my office as a drop-off point for those wishing to see that their recycling contributes to the well-being of Scottish woodlands. People living near a Tesco or WH Smith can also enquire in-store about taking along their own Christmas cards for recycling directly.

"I would encourage all my constituents not only to recycle their Christmas cards, but to make recycling a day-to-day habit they practice this year."
