Jo Swinson MP has invited secondary school pupils in East Dunbartonshire to test their mettle as political journalists.

Each year the Parliamentary Press Gallery runs a writing competition for young people from S3 to S6, called WriteNow. Contestants are asked to write an essay on a prescribed political topic, and can win the chance to visit London, meet with journalists and top politicians.

Jo commented, "I think this competition is a great way to get young minds thinking about politics. We often bemoan a lack of interest in politics, especially among the young. Simple things that raise awareness of the subject, like this competition, can go a long way towards changing attitudes."

"As the UK's youngest MP I believe strongly in cultivating an interest in politics among young people, and I hope to see as many schools, and pupils, as possible taking part."
