Charles Kennedy MP has congratulated Jo Swinson on becoming the new MP for East Dunbartonshire

Jo Swinson has been declared the new MP for East Dunbartonshire with a majority of 4061 over Labour.

The votes cast were as follows:

Jo Swinson - Lib Dem 19533

Labour 15472

Conservative 7708

SNP 2716

Green 876

SSP 419

The result was announced in Bishopbriggs Leisuredrome and was the first Liberal Democrat gain of the night.

Speaking after the result, new MP Jo Swinson said, "I am delighted and honoured to have been chosen to represent East Dunbartonshire. Some people thought I worked hard for this victory - as far as I'm concerned, the hard work starts now. I'm determined to be a good MP for our area."
