Jo Swinson: Lib Dems propose fairer pensions, scrap the council tax and better care when you need it most

The Scottish Liberal Democrats today announced plans for better care when you need it most. Malcolm Bruce, President of the Scottish Liberal Democrats announced their plans for a major boost for elderly care in the community, including action to:

· Improve care for many older people.

· Tackle delayed discharges.

· Prevent admissions to hospital in the first place.

· Free up more beds in acute hospitals.

Mr Bruce said: "Liberal Democrats believe that the mark of a civilised society is how it treats its older people. We want older people to have security and dignity in their retirement. We want to deliver better care when you need it most."

"In government Liberal Democrats have delivered a fairer deal for older people with free personal care, free central heating and free bus travel. At this election, we want to build on these achievements.

Jo Swinson added: "A Liberal Democrat government at Westminster would deliver an additional £1.8 billion to invest in Scotland. Liberal Democrats want to invest a share of this to give a major boost for elderly care in the community.

"We will invest £421 million in services for older people, delivering new investment in Community Hospitals, Community Health Care Facilities, home care, and new home support technology. 'Smart' technologies such as movement and fall detectors, bed and chair sensors, and direct communications can prevent people having to go into hospital and allow them to return home sooner when they do require hospital treatment."

"Over £400 million investment in a new package of care for older people in the community. That is how Liberal Democrats will deliver better care when you need it most."
