"Jo Swinson will make an excellent MP for East Dunbartonshire"

At a packed meeting of local members tonight, local campaigner Jo Swinson was formally adopted as the Liberal Democrat candidate for East Dunbartonshire for the General Election on 5 May.

At the meeting, Jo was flanked by founding leader of the Liberal Democrats Lord Maclennan of Rogart and Scottish Transport Minister Nicol Stephen MSP.

Robert Maclennan said: "It is a testament to the hard work of local people over many years that we now have a real chance of winning this seat."

"Jo is one of our brightest, most talented candidates and will make an excellent MP for East Dunbartonshire."

Nicol Stephen said: "I am proud to have a 100 per cent success rate in speaking at adoption meetings where the candidate went on to win and am confident that Jo Swinson will ensure I keep it."

Jo Swinson said: "The media know we can win East Dunbartonshire; Labour knows we can win East Dunbartonshire; we know we can win East Dunbartonshire.

"Labour have taken the West of Scotland for granted for many years. Local people deserve better. From Iraq to ID cards, pensions to the environment, Scotland needs the Liberal Democrats."
