Local Lib Dems congratulate Earl of Glasgow's election to Lords

7.00.00am GMT Tue 18th Jan 2005

Jo Swinson, Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesperson for East Dunbartonshire has congratulated Lord Boyle of Kelburn, the 10th Earl of Glasgow, on his election to the House of Lords last week.

The Earl was elected by sitting Liberal Democrat members of the House of Lords following the death of Earl Russell last autumn.

Jo said, "Although I'd prefer to see an elected House of Lords, it's great that the West of Scotland has another Liberal Democrat spokesperson in Parliament, especially given the London-centric nature of the House of Lords. The Earl was elected unanimously which is an enormous vote of confidence in his abilities."

Jo Swinson has written to the Earl of Glasgow to invite him to visit East Dunbartonshire.
