Local Post Office campaigner Jo Swinson has condemned the arrogance of Morrisons, who have ignored a petition against the closure of the Post Office in Safeway/Morrisons.

Jo sent off the 2300 signature petition in October, and has yet to receive any reply from Morrisons Head Office. Jo said, "For Morrisons to decide to remove this vital facility from their Bishopbriggs store is bad enough, but not even acknowledging this huge demonstration of local opposition to their plans adds insult to injury. 2300 people represents a sizable chunk of Bishopbriggs residents, and Morrisons should at least respond to the calls from their customers to reverse their decision to close the Post Office."

Jo Swinson also sent a copy of the petition to the Post Office, highlighting the importance of locating a new Post Office in the town centre of Bishopbriggs should Morrisons persist with their closure plan. Jo said, "The Post Office needs to be central and easily accessible by all forms of transport. The only acceptable solution is to have a Post Office in the town centre of Bishopbriggs. I have emphasised this to the Post Office, and the huge numbers who signed the petition confirms the strength of local feeling about it."

In contrast to Morrisons, the Post Office responded by acknowledging the petition and stated that they are "currently reviewing this situation".
