Recycling just got even easier for the residents of East Dunbartonshire as the Council secured funding of £16,000 to provide sixteen brand new can recycling banks. Jo Swinson welcomed the new resources for recycling. She said, "People in East Dunbartonshire are environmentally aware. The easier we make it for people to recycle, the more we can do to protect the environment."
The banks, the first of their kind in Scotland, take all food and drink cans. Councillor Vaughan Moody said, "We must continue to improve our record on recycling as our target is to recycle 25% of household waste by 2006. Currently we are achieving a rate of about 10.5%. These new banks should help push that figure up even further as recycling is made even more convenient for local people."
