Jo Swinson launches new passenger boat
The first passenger canal boat built in Scotland since the Forth and Clyde Canal was re-opened has been named at a ceremony in Kirkintilloch.
The 60 foot long Voyager was christened in a ceremony performed by local MP Jo Swinson, the youngest member of the House of Commons.
It is the largest drift boat on the Canal for 100 years. Appropriately, the Forth and Clyde Society is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary.
Guthrie Hutton from the Forth and Clyde Canal Society said: “Since the canal opened in 2001 we’ve been looking to heighten our profile, heighten the profile of the canal, and to really make a big statement about our faith in the future of the canal. So this is it, having a brand new boat that’s big and beautiful.
