Lottery funding to help local kids get active

Jo has welcomed the news that Auchinairn Primary School in Bishopbriggs and Reality Adventure Works in Kirkintilloch will be receiving £1,900 of lottery funding for outdoor activities.

The Big Lottery fund is awarding grants as part of its Communities 2014 programme, to build a legacy from the 2014 Commonwealth Games up and down the country.

Reality Adventure Works received a £1000 award, which it will use to provide two disadvantaged young people with the opportunity to participate in a week-long programme of outdoor physical activity with the intention of them progressing to join the group’s junior leadership training programme.

Auchinairn Primary School will be awarded £900, which it will use to buy equipment for netball and badminton, including balls, racquets and bibs. It will also purchase cycling helmets and pay for a dance tutor for school pupils.

Commenting, Jo said:

“This is wonderful news for Auchinairn Primary School and Reality Adventure Works.

“It is vitally important for children’s health and wellbeing that they are able to get some exercise and enjoy the outdoors. I’m sure that pupils at Auchinairn Primary will have great fun the new equipment and dance lessons too.

“Reality Adventure Works does a brilliant job of giving disadvantaged children some opportunities which they might not otherwise have, and I’m sure this funding boost will be a great help.

“Congraulations to all those involved in securing the awards.”
