Local Labour MP lets down students

Jo Swinson, Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesperson for East Dunbartonshire, has criticised local Labour MPs for backing the Government’s plans to bring in top-up fees.

Jo said:

“Labour MPs in the area – John Lyons, Tony Worthington and Tom Clarke – all voted with the Government to introduce top-up fees. If the three of them had voted against, top-up fees would have been defeated. They have badly let down both the hundreds of students across Scotland who go to university down south, and their families.”

She continued:

“Liberal Democrats believe that access to University should be based on merit, not money. We abolished tuition fees here in Scotland, and all Liberal Democrat MPs voted against top-up fees.”
