The President of the Liberal Democrat party, Baroness Ros Scott, has spoken out against plans for the redevelopment of Lower Kilmardinny.
Baroness Scott, who is an expert on local government and Vice President of the Local Government Association, visited the site of the proposed development with Jo today.
Commenting, Baroness Scott said:
“It is clear to me that the Notice of Intention from the Scottish Government Report rides roughshod over the wishes of the local community in Milngavie and Bearsden.
“I am of the opinion that our democracy should be renewed from the bottom up, beginning with connecting people with the political process at a local level. If the will of the people of East Dunbartonshire and the decisions of their local council are being overridden by a bureaucrat at Holyrood, how are we to expect those people to have faith in politics at any level?”
Commenting, Jo said:
“I am delighted that Baroness Scott is supporting the campaign against CALA’s plans for redevelopment at Kilmardinny.
“From talking to people in Milngavie and Bearsden I am aware that this is still an issue which is very much on people’s minds, despite there having been no news for several months from the Scottish Government Reporter, who is still deciding whether to extend the deadline for negotiations. “
