Emergency life support skills are being provided free of charge by the Milngavie Community First Responders group, and local MP Jo Swinson is urging people to sign up for the sessions.
These sessions are being organised as part of the British Heart Foundation’s ‘Heartstart UK’ initiative which teaches people what action to take in a life threatening situation. Participants will learn how to deal with issues such as cardiac arrest, choking and serious bleeding.
According to the British Heart Foundation there are around 60,000 incidences of cardiac arrest out-of-hospital every year. When someone goes into cardiac arrest, every minute with CPR and defibrillation reduces their survival chances by 10 per cent.
Commenting, Jo said:
“This is invaluable training for everyone and I thank Milngavie Community First Responders for offering people the chance to learn such vital skills.
“A life threatening emergency can strike at any time and it is crucial that we can react to such incidences. That’s why I urge as many people as possible to sign up to these free training sessions in Milngavie”.
The two hour sessions training will take place at the Fraser Centre in Milngavie on the following dates:
- Wednesday 14th May (7pm)
- Friday 13th June (7pm)
- Saturday 5th July (1.30pm)
- Wednesday 13th August (7pm)
- Friday 5th September (7pm)
- Saturday 4th October (1.30pm)
