Jo welcomes Freecycle to East Dunbartonshire

Jo has welcomed the news that non-profit website Freecycle has taken off in East Dunbartonshire.

Freecycle allows users to advertise items which they no longer need and are willing to give away for free. Anyone interested in one of the unwanted items can contact the donor and arrange to collect it. People can also post ‘wanted’ ads if there is a particular item they are looking for. The website has 2 million users in the UK, and 440 so far in East Dunbartonshire. The only rules are that no animals or illegal items can be freecycled and no money should change hands. Users can sign up for free to receive emails about items offered and wanted in their local area.

Commenting, Jo said:

“I am very pleased that Freecycle is taking off in East Dunbartonshire, and I have signed myself up already. It’s a fantastic service that helps people to save money and help the environment at the same time, by reducing the number of items which end up in landfill. People give away all kinds of items using Freecycle, from items of furniture to musical instruments, so it’s well worth a look.”
