Jo welcomes care and repair funding for social lets

Local MP Jo Swinson is welcoming the launch of East Dunbartonshire Housing Service's small repairs/handyperson service for council registered social landlord tenants.

The East Dunbartonshire Change Fund Board has awarded the service £50,000 per year for the next 3 years in order to carry out jobs such as changing light bulbs and hanging curtains. The client doesn't have to pay any labour costs but will have to pay for materials.

Jo had written to the Council on behalf of a constituent questioning the lack of a small repairs service for those living in Council Housing. East Dunbartonshire offers a care and repair for service for those living in private accommodation based within the Antonine Housing Association.

Commenting Jo said:

"A Small Repairs Service, where the labour is free of charge and clients just pay for the materials, will be reassuring to older and vulnerable people. It's key that they have someone they trust in their homes.

"We need to get the word out about this service so as many people as possible can benefit. Anyone interested in further information should contact 0141 578 0156. "
