Local MP Jo Swinson has today expressed support for volunteers working in East Dunbartonshire.
Jo’s comments come during the 29th edition of Volunteers’ Week, a nationwide week to celebrate the work of millions of volunteers who give up their time to help others. To mark the week Jo made a visit to Ceartas Advocacy in Kirkintilloch on Friday.
Organisations will be taking the opportunity to recognise the contribution of their volunteers through holding awards ceremonies, recruitment fairs, celebration events, training opportunities and volunteer taster sessions. East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Action held a volunteer fair on Tuesday June 4 at the Kirkintilloch Baptist Church and on Thursday 6 June at the Fraser Centre in Milngavie.
Commenting Jo said:
“Volunteers’ Week is a fabulous opportunity for us to recognise and celebrate volunteers. Locally we’re fortunate to have organisations like the Friendship Circle in Milngavie and Ceartas Advocacy in Kirkintilloch making an incredible contribution to our communities.
“ Volunteers are the lifeblood of many organisations, and without their dedication, energy and commitment, many of the services we take for granted would simply grind to a halt.
“Volunteers also benefit tremendously from the experience – learning new skills, getting back into paid work, improving physical or mental well-being, or simply meeting interesting people and having fun.
“Please join us in saying thank you to the volunteers who make our society a better place. Find out more at volunteersweek.org ”
