Jo opens Parliament’s nursery

Jo at the opening of Parliament's new nursery

Jo recently joined in opening the new Parliamentary nursery, to care for the children of MPs and staff.

The nursery, which will be paid for by users, can accommodate forty children. It has been opened as part of a wider push to modernise Parliament and expand the participation and representation of a diversity of members, including those with young families.

Commenting, Jo said:

“I was delighted to join in opening the first parliamentary nursery. Many families struggle to balance childcare arrangements with their working lives, but Parliament has sadly been behind the times when it comes to offering parents practical support.

“However, this nursery provides long-awaited help. I hope the new family-friendly side to Parliament will encourage many more candidates with children to stand as MPs.”
