Jo visited the site of the planning Kirkintilloch Skatepark today where workers have begun to dig the park’s foundations.
The new skatepark has been designed by young skaters from Kirkintilloch Skatepark Initiative, and after more than six years in the planning stages work is finally underway to build the park.
East Dunbartonshire Council have long had earmarked a piece of land in Luggie Park, and KSI have raised funds in a variety of ways, from selling Christmas and auctioning second-hand skates to obtaining a lottery grant.
The £500,000 project is expected to be completed in September.
Commenting, Jo said:
“I have been following this project for six years now, so I am delighted that they have now started building the park. A huge amount of work has been put into this by local young people, parents, and volunteers, and I’m sure it will be well worth it when the park is finished. It has been a fantastic project for young people to be involved in and the park will be a wonderful addition to the area.”
