Jo Swinson MP for East Dunbartonshire has congratulated the Addiction Recovery Centre in Kirkintilloch for being shortlisted for a Dods Charity Champion Award. The local charity is one of just three local charities selected from across the UK
The Addiction Recovery Centre in Kirkintilloch was nominated by Jo for the award in the local charity category. Parliamentarians nominate a local charitable organisation that they feel deserves special recognition for the good work that they have carried out over the past year.
The centre provides support to those suffering from an addiction and their families across the whole of East Dunbartonshire and part of North Lanarkshire local authority area. The centre provides facilities for learning, training, health, well-being activities and sport pursuits for those in recovery enabling them to become a positive and useful member of their family and community and also to establish or re-establish full time employment, college placements or their own business opportunities.
All parliamentarians will now be invited to vote until 4 May 2012 in order to decide the winners in each category.
Commenting Jo Swinson said:
“It is fantastic that the Addiction Recovery Centre has been shortlisted. They serve the entire East Dunbartonshire community providing support to people and families struggling with the consequences of an addiction. They are an inspiration to similar organisations around the country and I’m pleased that they’re based right here in East Dunbartonshire.”
“They should be very proud of their achievements and long may their good work continue.”
