Jo calls for better communication by mobile networks

Jo wants mobile phone companies to make greater efforts to discuss health issues with the public

Greater efforts should be made by mobile phone networks to communicate with the public over health issues, according to Jo Swinson MP.

This was one of a number of points that Jo stressed to Stuart Eke of the Mobile Operators’ Association (MOA) in a meeting earlier today. The MOA is the representative body for all five major mobile phone networks.

Commenting on the meeting, Jo said:

“Concerns over mobile phones and health are commonplace and at times it can be hard to sort fact from fiction. The combined customer base of the five mobile networks in the UK is huge, and as a resource for communicating about issues around mobile phones and health, it is largely untapped.

“I received a large amount of positive feedback after the public meeting I held in September on phonemasts. With the resources available to the MOA and mobile phone companies, they should be playing a far greater role in helping people understand the issues involved.

“I would urge them to make this a priority.”
