Jo is looking forward to casting her vote for Ming Campbell

Jo Swinson MP is backing Sir Menzies Campbell to be the new leader of the Liberal Democrats.

With ballots due to be posted to all Liberal Democrat members on 6th February, the vast majority of votes in the leadership election will be cast by the middle of next week.

Sir Menzies Campbell is supported by leading Liberal Democrats including former leaders Paddy Ashdown and Sir David Steel.

Jo commented:

“Ming Campbell will be a superb leader of the Liberal Democrats. He has the authority, stature and experience to challenge Blair and Brown.

“A liberal of great conviction, Ming is widely respected for his integrity and consistency in the face of others’ opportunism and spin.

“2006 has so far been a turbulent year for the Liberal Democrats. The party has already benefited from Ming’s professionalism and sound judgement, and will continue to do so.

“Ming has the support of MPs, Lords, Councillors, activists and members up and down the country. Locally in addition to myself, Council Leader John Morrison and East Dunbartonshire Liberal Democrat Convener Keith Moody are both backing Ming.

“I look forward to casting my vote for Ming and seeing him elected as the new leader of the Liberal Democrats.”
