Local MP Jo Swinson was awarded a certificate recognising the public commitment she has made to the social mobility agenda through the Business Compact.
Ms. Swinson received the nod thanks to her work aimed at raising the aspirations for young people from all backgrounds and to ensure fair and open access to everyone.
The Business Compact is part of the Coalition Government’s Social Mobility Strategy which asks businesses to do their bit to make sure everyone has a fair opportunity to fulfil their potential, regardless of the circumstances of their birth.
Commenting Jo said:
“When you’re looking for employment, too often it’s who you know, not what you know, that counts.
“Hiring practices should be open and transparent. That’s why the Business Compact is so important. It commits businesses to opening their doors to give people the break they need.
“I encourage as many employers as possible to join. Business who want to get involved should send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.”
