More than 700 people in East Dunbartonshire were policyholders with Equitable Life and have lost money as a result of the company’s near-collapse. Despite a Parliamentary Ombusdman call on the Government in July 2008 to apologise to Equitable Life policyholders and establish a fund to pay compensation to those who lost out, the Government has failed to act. This saga has gone on for almost a decade, and it is estimated that 15 policyholders die every day. It is high time the Government compensated those who are still waiting for justice to be done.
