Local MP Jo Swinson is encouraging the community to show their support for Team Scotland when the Queen’s Baton Relay makes its way through East Dunbartonshire.
On Saturday 19 July the Queen’s Baton Relay will be in Bearsden, Milngavie, Bardowie, Torrance, Lennoxtown, Kirkintilloch, Lenzie and Bishopbriggs. The stop in East Dunbartonshire is the last before the flame tours Glasgow ahead of the Opening Ceremony.
After having visited 69 nations and territories across the globe, the baton will visit over 400 communities in Scotland, giving people a chance to be a part of the excitement of Scotland’s biggest-ever sporting event. The relay will encourage communities to get behind Team Scotland, get involved with the Games and get more people participating in sport.
Commenting Jo said:
“4000 batonbearers across Scotland will complete the Queen’s Baton Relay in 40 days as it makes its way to the Opening Ceremony where the message the Queen placed inside the baton will be read.
“It promises to be an unforgettable experience and I’m sure I speak for the community when I say we very much look forward to welcoming the torch to our area.
“More specific details about the route and activities will be announced nearer the time and can be found on the following website http://t.co/b6LM4KUETh .”
