Deadline extended for Equitable Life victims to receive compensation – Jo

Local MP Jo Swinson is welcoming the news that the Equitable Life Compensation Scheme is due to be extended until 2015 to ensure that as many policyholders as possible can benefit. It is estimated that more than 700 people in East Dunbartonshire were affected by the scandal.

The Coalition Government has already made £734 million in payments but despite the good progress wants to ensure they reach even more policyholders in order to give them the payment they are due for the injustice they suffered.

Commenting Jo said:
“The Labour Government ignored the millions of people who had lost their savings thanks to their mismanagement. Locally I heard from local residents who had lost up to half their pensions because of this fiasco.

“In three years, Liberal Democrats in Government have created a compensation scheme and paid out the best part of three quarters of a billion pounds.

“Any policyholder who believes themselves to be eligible for the Scheme, but who has not yet been contacted, is encouraged to call the Scheme directly on 0300 0200 150.”
